Joining

Accounts are invite-only. Open the invite link a member sent you, then sign up with email and a password or an email link.

Your profile

Choose a handle when you join. Your profile lives at /@yourhandle. You can change your handle later; old links keep working and redirect to the new one.

Invitations

Each member has up to 3 invites, and one comes back every 30 days. Create a link from Invitations on your profile and send it to the person you’re inviting; it works once and expires after 30 days. You can revoke unused invites there too.

Links and videos

Choose Link in the Composer’s Add row and paste a web address. Each link shows as Link only (the site’s address, with a title you can write) or Preview (the page’s title, description, and image). If a page has no image or can’t be reached, the preview isn’t available and the link shows as Link only; Refresh preview tries again. A post can hold up to 8 links.

A YouTube address becomes a video, up to 4 per post. Choose Show as a link instead to keep it as a link. Nothing loads from YouTube until someone presses play; the player then comes from youtube-nocookie.com.

The link preview fetcher

When a member chooses Preview, our servers request that one page, read only its head for the title, description, and image, and fetch the image, which we store and serve ourselves. Each request identifies itself as the artnow.world link preview fetcher, reads at most 512 KB of a page, and makes at most 60 requests a minute to any one site. It never reaches private networks. Site owners can contact support@artnow.world.
