Privacy

What’s public
Your handle, display name, avatar, bio, link, and published work are public.
What’s private
Your email address, drafts, saved items, and phone number (if you enable text publishing) are never shown publicly.
Media
Location and other embedded metadata (such as GPS coordinates and the camera model) are removed from every copy of a photo, video, or recording that anyone sees. Your original file is kept unchanged, only for you, and is included when you export your data.
Text messages
- Your phone number is stored encrypted and is used only to recognize your texts and reply to them. It never appears on your profile or anywhere public, admins can’t see it, and it isn’t included in your data export.
- The text of your messages is deleted from our records 30 days after we’ve processed it, and the rest of each message record after 90 days. What you texted lives on only in the posts and drafts it became, which you control like any other.
- Messages reach us through our SMS provider, Twilio. Once we’ve processed a message we delete it from Twilio, including its text and attachments. Twilio may keep deleted message text in its backups for up to 30 days.
- If you text STOP, we keep a record that your number opted out, even after your account is deleted, so that we never text it again unless you text START.
- We never sell or share your phone number or your opt-in with anyone for marketing. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties.
Removed posts and comments
- A post or comment you remove is hidden right away and permanently deleted after 3 days. An admin can restore a post within that time.
- A post or comment an admin removes for breaking the rules is kept for 90 days for review, visible only to admins, then permanently deleted.
- Once deleted, a post’s address shows “not found” and is never reused.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account from Account settings. You’ll need to have signed in recently.
- Your profile, posts, drafts, comments, bookmarks, project memberships, help requests, and media are deleted after 30 days. Until then your account is hidden and you can cancel.
- Projects you own are deleted too, unless a contributor accepts ownership first. Other people’s posts in them stay on their profiles.
- Content an admin removed for breaking the rules may be kept for up to 90 days from its removal, visible only to admins, before it’s deleted.
- Your handle is retired and never given to anyone else.
- Pending invites you sent are cancelled, and cancelling deletion doesn’t bring them back.
Exporting your data
- An export holds your profile, posts, drafts, the comments you wrote, bookmarks, the handles you’ve blocked or muted, your project memberships, the details and order of projects you own, your help and feedback requests and the replies you received, and the original file of everything you uploaded.
- It doesn’t include other people’s comments or media, reports, moderation records, or email addresses.
- We email you when it’s ready. The link opens a page where you sign in to download; each download link works for 5 minutes, and the export is deleted after 7 days. You can request one export every 24 hours.
Help and feedback
Help and feedback requests are visible only to you and the site’s admins. Along with what you write, a Bug request stores your browser’s user agent and the path of the page you came from. Requests are kept until your account is deleted, and they’re included when you export your data.
Blocking and muting
- Blocking works both ways: neither of you can comment on the other’s posts, invite the other to a project, offer the other a project, or add posts to the other’s projects. Pending invitations and offers between you are cancelled.
- Muting is one-sided and changes nothing for the other person.
- Both hide the other person’s work only for you, on tag pages, project pages, the Directory, and in comments. Their profile and posts stay public for everyone else, and they aren’t told.
Only you can see who you’ve blocked or muted.
